Very well written Maarten. One of the fundamental aspect gripping most of us is the case of pluralistic ignorance. We follow a practice not because we have thought about it or like it but because we feel most of other people like it or it is a norm. So even if a chance of thinking arrives, we prefer to stick onto the established patterns to avoid uncertainty and any spil over into the grey area.
